We all need less stress in our lives, especially in times like these. And studies have shown that reading can reduce your stress by 60%! So here are my top recommendations of how you get read more and pay less.

Check out these four ways to access books online for free:

1.Audible

Amazon offers a month’s free trial of Audible, which is plenty of time to make a serious dent in your reading list.

With a free trial, you can spend one ‘credit’ a month on an audiobook of your choosing – I read ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and loved every minute.

It’s perfect for classic books where the text is difficult to decipher, as many use different narrators or some music to break up the reading. Listen while playing a game, tidying your room or doing chores. After you’ve finished your book, just ‘return’ it and buy another one – and it won’t cost you a penny.

2.The Open Library

This is easy to use and can save you serious cash. Simply create a free account, and get reading!

There’s a massive variety of books to choose, from classics to the more obscure. I read ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’ by George Orwell, which I wouldn’t have read otherwise.

3.Project Gutenberg

This project first started in 1971 and since then, the number of books easily available on the website has soared to contain over 60,000 public domain books (books which have timed out of their copyright).

Try giving ‘Little Women’ by Louisa May Alcott a read, or maybe ‘Dracula’ by Bram Stoker if you fancy something a little spookier.

4.National Theatre’s YouTube Channel

I know this is a loose definition of ‘reading’, but it’s a great alternative for those struggling to concentrate on the page for long periods.

They’re usually live for a week so keeping checking in. Watching Benedict Cumberbatch as ‘Frankenstein’ made me fall in love with the story all over again.
